Best Actors and Actresses in Bengali movies in 2013

Throughout the whole year there were lot of Actors and Actresses who succeeded to catch our attention with their good acting and box office performances. Here is the list of Top Five performers of 2013 in Bengali movie industry.

Top Five Actors:

1.       Dev – No doubt the year belongs to Dev. He came with three movies and all three were blockbusters. His first release was Khoka 420 which established his popularity once again, then came his second release Rangbaaz which becomes the highest grosser of the year. Both these movies were out an out commercial masala movies but his third release changed his image totally when he takes the challenge to act in serious cinema like Chander Pahar. First time he proved his acting capacity with this movie.
2.       Shaswata Chatterjee – Till 2012, Shaswata was considered as a character actor who used to do good acting but in supporting roles only but in 2013 he emerges as a lead actor in not one or two rather in three movies. He has proved that without attractive looks and well toned body a person can be the main hero of a film if he has the skill of good acting. His award winning performance in Meghe Dhaka Tara was his career best, on the other hand in C/O Sir and Ashcharjyo Pradeep he manages to give life to the characters on screen with his effortless acting. Besides these lead roles he caught our attention in supporting roles in movies like Goynar Baksho and Prolay.
3.       Jeet – Maybe Jeet yet to have prove his acting abilities in meaningful cinema but he has already proved his stardom in commercial movies. In 2013 he turned producer and co-produced two films Deewana and Boss. While Deewana was superhit, Boss was blockbuster. There is no doubt Jeet is the Boss of Tollywood.
4.       Ritwick Chakraborty – Till 2012 he was just a supporting actor who used to do very few movies but thanks to director Kaushik Ganguly who realized his potential and casted him in tough role of a foley artiste in Shabdo. Ritwick grabbed this lifetime opportunity and proved that he should be taken seriously as an actor. Later he showed his brilliance once again in the movie Bakita Byaktigato.
5.       Prasenjeet Chatterjee – Prasenjeet had two releases in 2013, Mishawr Rawhoshyo and Hanuman.com. The first one did exceptionally well business while the later got a good opening but could not survive later at the box office. But in both the movies Prasenjeet did a fabulous job. Unfortunately the movies were not good enough to cast him as the leading man. We expect that next time you will take care about choosing a script for you Mr.Chatterjee.

Apart from them there were some actors who got some good some bad response for their acting as well as box office performance in 2013.

Parambrato Chatterjee – He was good in Hawa Badol but failed to impress in his other two releases Machh Mishti n More and Praloy.
Abir Chatterjee – He did very well in his first ever negative character in Kanamachhi. Also his supporting act in Meghe Dhaka Tara was good, but he was not that much impressive in Abarto or Asbo Arek Din.
Indraneil Sengupta – He was very good in negative roles in C/O Sir and Mishawr Rawhoshyo. Also did a good supporting job in Satyanweshi but failed to impress in his leading roles.

Top Five Actresses:

1.       Konkona Sensharma – Although her first movie in 2013, Shunyo Anko remained unnoticed but she bounced back with her second release that was Goynar Baksho. In Gaynar Baksho she proved once again that she gives her best under the direction of her mother. The way she portrayed the character of Shomlata, a housewife who later turns into an entrepreneur, was very much convincing. We loved her stammering and nervousness.
2.       Shrabanti – Sharabanti continued to rule box office in commercial movies like Deewana and Majnu. At the same time she tries to do some different type of roles also where she had more scope to perform as an actress. It started with her different role in Kanamachhi and later she continued this trend with Goynar Baksho where she was seen in totally non glamorous role. Although the length of her role was smaller but she managed to grab attention with her widow act in spite of the presence of actors of big calibre.
3.       Koyel – During the first half of the year she was more in news for her marriage but in the second half she was in news for her solo release in 2013 that was Rangbaaz. Her chemistry with Dev was once again appreciated and it became the biggest hit of the year.
4.       Shubhashree – Critics still may consider her just a glam doll who cannot act in serious roles but trade analysts cannot decline her mass appeal. She gave two back to back big blockbusters Khoka 420 and Boss in the same year.
5.       Swastika – This lady gave two mature performances in two different films directed by the same director Mainak Bhaumik. First one was Machh Mishti n More, where she made her presence felt in the crowd of so many talented actors. The second one was Ami Ar Amar Girlfriends. In this movie she did full justice to her character of a middle aged married woman and did one of her career best performance. But her performance in her other movies like Asbo Arek Din and Mishawr Rawhoshyo were just average.

Apart from these talented ladies the other heroines who made news in 2013 were,

Raima Sen – She continued to do movies, which are typically her type of movies and we loved her performances in Hawa Badol, Shabdo and C/O Sir.
Arpita Chatterjee – She did only one film in 2013 and that was Satyaneshi. Her acting in this movie was very nice.

Ananya Chatterjee – This national award winning actress was featured in only one movie where she proved that why she deserves awards and the movie was Meghe Dhaka Tara. Here she underplayed her character very well.
